Can is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season.
The Germany international has been linked with a free transfer to Juventus.
And while previewing tonight’s Champions League last 16 first leg clash away to Porto, Liverpool academy coach Gerrard says Can will be on his way.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was discussing Reds captain Jordan Henderson.
He questioned whether Henderson would get in the Liverpool team when Naby Keita arrives from RB Leipzig in the summer.
“Do you think when everyone’s fit and Keita comes in as well, does he get in that team?,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
“As a captain as well? I think he struggles to get in that team.”
Gerrard says there will be a space for Henderson with the departure of Can.
“Well you’ll have to wait and see what happens because Emre Can’s leaving, obviously Keita’s coming in,” Gerrard said.
“But Keita is a No 8, Keita is a dribbler, and a runner.
“But the way he (Jurgen Klopp) plays he plays 4-3-3 more often than not. So you can accommodate a Henderson and a Keita.”
Can was not involved for tonight’s clash against Porto due to suspension.
