Manchester United have long been linked with Real Madrid midfielder Kroos, with interest dating back to the player’s time at Bayern Munich.

The Germany international was wanted when strutting his stuff in the Bundesliga but the Red Devils’ decision to replace David Moyes with Louis van Gaal ultimately cost them dear.

Real, meanwhile, are expected to embark on a summer spending spree given their current problems under Zinedine Zidane.

And the Manchester Evening News say an overhaul of their squad could lead to Kroos moving to Manchester United.

The Germany international has been a huge success during his time in the capital.

Kroos signed for Real in 2014 after United missed out on the chance to snap him up.

In the time since the 28-year-old has gone on to help Real win two Champions League titles.

And he was also part of the side that battled their way to the La Liga crown last season.

Yet the MEN say Real could lose their midfield maestro if they splash the cash this summer.

And that could pave the way for United to finally land their man.

However, had Moyes stayed in charge, then Kroos would already be plying his trade at Old Trafford.

“Toni Kroos was agreed to come in the summer,” he said after his sacking.

“I had agreed it with Toni himself and his agent.”

United could sign Kroos to help coax the best from Paul Pogba.

Pogba has been heavily criticised in recent weeks for poor displays against Tottenham and Newcastle.
