That is according to Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester City striker Shaun Goater.

Karius has been the regular goalkeeper for Liverpool in the Premier League of late, with Mignolet stepping in during FA Cup matches.

The shoes were on the opposite feet earlier this season, with Karius starting every Champions League group game and Mignolet the regular league stopper.

The pair have both received criticism for their performances from fans and pundits but Goater does not think they have been helped by being rotated so often.

“Both keepers are thinking ‘am I No 1?’,” Goater said.

“I think if there is a definitive ‘I’m No 1, I play Champions League and I play Premier League’ then I think the situation would be resolved and you would get the performances.”

Liverpool travel to Porto in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash tonight (7.45pm).

Jurgen Klopp yesterday refused to reveal who will be playing between the sticks.

“To be honest I have not made the final decision but it is not the same situation as it was,” Klopp said.

“A good one will play. But I haven’t made the decision so far.”
